The SUBARU MOUNTAINBIKE PRO TEAM starts off 2009 with 2 podium finishes in Barcelona at the 10th Annual Grand-Prix of St Andreu.

After a week of intense testing and training with Mondraker design engineer and racer Cesar Rojo, the team was set for a tough race. This year the event attracted some of the world’s best downhillers; names like Gracia, Pascal, Vazquez, and Canals-Flix were all present for some early season racing.

The track was loose, dusty and tight with lots of focus on acceleration and constant search for grip in the sandy dust. Bike set-up was important and after two days of training Fabien, Florent and Damien were ready to race.

Sunday was a hot sunny day so no changes were required. The semi final went well for Florent and Damien even though they were not at full pace and made some small mistakes they managed to finish with good times and knew what to do to improve them for the second round. For Fabien things went well until the halfway mark where he pulled some muscles in his back causing him to stiffen up and loose some time, despite this he managed to finish second. He was suffering from an injury that occurred during training earlier in the week and had to grit his teeth to the finish. He was not sure if he would take the start of the second run but after seeing how close the times were he knew he had to better his time if he wanted to stay on the podium.

For the final things went much better for the team, Damien achieved his top 10 goal finishing 9th, he had a much better run but suffering a cold and fatigue from the weeks training he could not push 100% so was content with his result. Florent pulled out all the stops and showed that this year his physical condition will no longer be an issue finishing in 3rd place just behind his teammate Fabien.
For Fabien the race was more a battle against the pain than the clock, he managed to control his run and improve his time but missed the top spot by 0.022sec…

With some new partners onboard the team are proud to show that they have already placed a stamp of authority on the 2009 season.

Le Subaru MTB pro team commence la saison sur les chapeaux de roue avec 2 podium au 10ème grand prix annuel de DH à St Andreu.

Après une semaine de tests intensifs avec le designer et pilote Mondraker César Rojo, le team était prêt à en découdre…  Cette année, l’événement a attiré quelques-uns des meilleurs descendeurs mondiaux comme Gracia, Pascal, Vazquez et Canals-Flix.

La piste était poussiéreuse et sèche mais avec beaucoup d’accélérations. La recherche constante de grip dans cette poussière était essentielle. Après deux jours d’entraînement et de réglages, Fabien, Florent et Damien, étaient prêts pour la course.

Le dimanche était chaud et ensoleillé. La demi-finale s’est bien passée pour Florent et Damien qui, même s’ils n’étaient pas à fond et ont fait quelques petites erreurs, ont fini avec un bon chrono. Les choses allaient bien pour Fabien. Mais vers la moitié du parcours, il s’étira certains muscles de son dos, ce qui l’obligea de ralentir et de perdre un peu de temps. En plus de ça, il souffrait d’une blessure qu’il s’ était faite au cours d’un entraînement quelques jours plus tôt et il du serrer les dents pour arriver à finir la course. Malgré tout, il réussit à terminer deuxième. Il ne savait pas trop s’il prendrait le départ de la deuxième manche mais après avoir vu les autres chronos, il savait qu’il devait faire un meilleur temps s’il voulait rester sur le podium.

Pour la finale, les choses se passèrent beaucoup mieux pour le team. Damien atteint son objectif du top 10 en faisant 9ème. Il fit un bien meilleur run, mais souffrant d’un rhume et de la fatigue de sa semaine d’entraînement, il ne pu pas pousser la machine à 100%. Florent montra que cette année  sa condition physique ne sera plus un obstacle et finit en 3ème place juste derrière son coéquipier Fabien.
Pour Fabien, la course a été plus une bataille contre la douleur que contre le chrono. Il fit un run propre et améliorera son temps mais rata la première place de 0.022sec …
